Ok, as promised, this is the follow-up post of my yesterday’s Little Mantou Boys bento on the step-by-step how I made the mantou boys.
It was actually quite easy to make the mantou boys with the help of all the handy seaweed punchers.
The first photo shows the 2 punchers that I used to get the facial details for the mantou boys.
All right, here we go…
1. Cut two thin and long slices off from the carrot with the slicing knife, and steam the carrot. Do not over steam because if the carrot become too soft, it can be hard to shape.
2. Cut all the sides of the carrot slices following the green lines to make tidy stripes out of them.
3. The result, you will get a long rectangle stripe and another shorter stripe with one sharp end.
4. Fold the shorter stripe over the long ones as shown in the following photo.
5. Pin them onto the mantou with tiny stripes of spaghetti and you are done with the scarf for the boy. Now I realized I didn’t take a photo of the result of this step! Anyway, please refer to the final result photo to see how I did it.
6. Punch the seaweed using the 2 punchers shown in the first photo (if you don’t have the puncher, you can always cut free hand, which of course will need a little more patient
)
7. Cut the flower shape into half to make the hair of the boy.
8. Select the combination of facial detail from the seaweed punched with the shoe shape puncher.
9. Stick all the seaweeds to the mantou with a small amount of either mayonnaise or butter.
So here are the two mantou boys with carrot scarves I made. Hope you have a fun time making yours!
