“Piplup, Pochama (ポッチャマ, Pochama) in original Japanese language versions, is one of the three species of Pokémon players can choose from at the beginning of their adventure in the Diamond and Pearl versions of the series. Characterized as a blue penguin, it has yellow feet and a light-blue body. There are two white spots on its chest that seem to resemble buttons on a suit. Piplup have a layer of fine down covering their bodies that protects them from frigid waters as well as hot temperatures. It lives along shores in northern countries, and is a skilled swimmer diving for over 10 minutes at a time. It has a circular, blue head with white circles around its eyes and a small, yellow beak. Piplup are very proud Pokémon that dislike receiving food from others, and don’t like to be taken care of. It’s difficult to bond with since it won’t listen to its Trainer. It is a poor walker, often falling down, but as a very proud Pokémon, it always gets back up.”
My boy has been asking for Pokémon bento, and I did some ‘homework’ on some of the characters and I landed on Pochama which I think is the more achievable one. Above are some information about Pochama and a cute picture of it.
So far I only know Pikachu among so many of the Pokémon characters. This is a good chance for me to learn new ones and understand what my elder boy always try to tell me about the story of Pokémon that he sometimes watches at nanny’s place.
Because of this Pochama bento, I had the chance to make bread onigiri! I wanted to give this a try since long time ago, and finally I did it! Instead of using rice, I shape 2 pieces of white bread into ball shape with meat floss as fillings. It was not as tough as I imagine, though it was actually tougher than shaping a rice onigiri.
I cut the facial detail of the Pochama using seaweed and cheese. I didn’t have any blue colour egg sheet on hand, so I use my crown food picks to mimic the patter on top of the beak. Pretty easy isn’t it? Pardon me for the green one, as I only have one blue crown food pick at the moment. 
Besides the two bread onigiri Pochamas, I included a strawberry, a cherry and two skewers of endamame in JY’s bento.
Hope JY enjoys his snack in school later, and not playing with the Pochama!

My son loved Pokemon when he was a kid. He’s 15 now and has outgrown his love for this adorable cat (is it a cat character??). I only know Pickachu too. I love this bento box. It looks complicated to make. You are such a pro!

so cute!!! my little one was crazy over pokemon. he studied them more than he studied for school! (doesn’t help that us parents kept buying him more pokemon stuff) He’s now into bakugan but still read the pokemon book when he has nothing else to do! I actually made him a Pikachu using cheese. Then one day he showed me the book and ask me to make another character so I made Onyx. It’s like a stone catepillar so I used meatballs to make it. I think you could also make Jiggly Puff too using ham/turkey, it’s pink and round.

just wondering does your son ate the lettuce you use to decorate? as i think my son wont eat that..so i was thinking of other idea as substitute..
bobo – Thanks! I’ll try to find time for this! It is pretty easy actually. Initially my son never touch the lettuce leave. But after a while he starts to eat them. Not finish all though, but at least half of them. For substitute, you can try those food baran. There are a lot of different shapes of food baran out there, like the grass shape which I think is a good option to replace lettuce.
