Yesterday was an extremely busy but fruitful day for me. I took a day off from work to go to my boy’s birthday party at his school, followed by running some errands that I had been postponing due to my full time job.
I’ll share with you my boy’s birthday party details later. In their school, birthdays are celebrated on Fridays only so daily school schedules are not interrupted. Every Friday is the school’s Super Fun day, where kids wear their casual school T-shirts instead of uniforms, and there are a lot of fun activities planned for them.
I made my boy this chick bento yesterday. I cut the little chick from a pan-fried luncheon meat with the chicken shape cookie cutter. I used the red colour heart shape food pick for the beak, a small heart shape cheese for the wing, and seaweed for the rest of the details.
I let the little chick sit on the walnut bun surrounded by green lettuce. He looks like he is chilling out in his cozy nest, doesn’t he?
Besides the walnut bun and the luncheon meat chic, I included some prunes, cherries, boiled carrots and two skewers of endamame.
Thanks to creative bento-ing, my elder boy starts to eat boiled carrots. I was pleasantly surprised that he came home with one carrot, and it was simply because he did not have enough time to clean up the food during his morning break time.

Happy Birthday to JY!
Actually it is good that JY’s school fix a day for all the celebrations at least parents knows what their kids are doing on those days.
Glad to know JY is eating more carrot… my boy is a carrot eater! The chool caretaker even call him ‘rabbit’!
Angeleyes – Thank you! Yeah, at least they are following strictly their schedule
I tried to make my first Bento today. When my boy sees the animal shape bread with jam and cheese, u can see the suprise in his eyes..hehe..
But he ate only 2 of them, think we need to get up quite early to send him to school.. his appetite is not good in the morning.. so i pack some in his school backpack..
I will keep trying with new ideas..hmm.. now i am planning for my 2nd trip to get some bento gadgets in 100 shop this time maybe? haha.. bento addiction..
My son is having his bday party at school this friday too.. I am also taking a day off to celebrate with him…
Happy belated bday to JY too..how old is he now?
bobo – Welcome to the bento club and glad that your boy like it!
My boy is having the same thing, he will only take milk in the morning, and that’s why I pack him the bento for his morning break in school.
Oh yes, we are all bento gadgets addicts! Haha…
Oh wow, Happy Birthday to your boy too! JY is 5 years old this year. How about your boy?
yea.. bento addicts.. think its becoz we love cute stuff from Japan.. i bet you were collecting cute stuffs from Daiso even before bentoing.
I love Sanrio characters when i was young..
my boy Ethan is turning 3.
oh ya.. now i remember i stumble upon your website while i was searching for montessori vs fungates.
now he is attending a quite popular montesorri school after 7 mths on waiting list.. they call me up just early this month that there is a place for myboy.
and i have register him at a FUngates school next year (4yrs) as i they are all full for 3 yrs.
so now i will let my boy choose at the end of the year whether he wants to continue this montessori school or fungate next yr..
guess we mums talk about kids it will be never ending..so many to share rite?
bobo – Yes you are right!
Yeah, it is good to let him try out. But bare in mind one thing, Fungate teaches phonic is a different way compare to usual Montessori. The way Fungate teaches is more like suku kata way. So you might want to check it out will that confuse your boy if he switch between these 2.
Oh yes, when mums talk about kids, there are never lack of topics! Haha…
