Mommy And Son Cooking Session!

The pediatrician is right, my elder boy’s fever returned last night. I did not prepare bento early this morning because I was not sure if he would be fit to go to school. Last I checked his temperature was back to normal and he was keen to go to school so off he went.

I guess he is looking forward to his Kiddie Sports Day practice. I am praying that he will get well in time for the sports event in two days. It will break his heart if he misses it! He was so excited yesterday coming home with his new sports day jersey- he is with the yellow team this year.

Although there is no bento posting today, I have a great news to share. When JY and I stayed home two days ago, we had a Mommy and Son cooking session and it was so fun! Oh yes, I know you will ask– wasn’t he sick? Once he felt better later of the day he got bored so we tried out something new – making lunch together. The menu was decided by my boy – spaghetti with sausages, and I think that was great idea for a kid’s cooking session!

Look at the boy concentrating on slicing the sausages, pouring out the tomato paste from the can, boiling the spaghetti and the tomato paste, mixing the paste with the spaghetti, and completing the lunch with some golden kiwi and cherries (Mommy was the one slicing the fruits).

My boy is very into bento, and he never forgets to give his lunch a touch up with the colourful music food picks!

We both had a fun time, and the little boy finished a big bowl of the spaghetti! I am sure he loves the food he made for himself  :)

Great bonding activity.. My boy will peep on me making bento, but he is too young to participate yet.. he kept stealing my bento gadgets to play..so I am quite busy in keeping an eye on him too..haha..
I will let him try to make bento with me when he turns 4.. JY is 5 this yr rite?

    • KidsDreamWork says:

bobo – Yeah JY is 5 this year. Before that I never let him cook with me too, worry he will hurt himself! I think bento should be ok to start at 4 :)

  • bobo says:

oh i notice he has his own apron too.. so cute.

  • Karen says:

Kids can cook! I used to ‘shoo ‘ them away when I was cooking. Now that they are older, I will ask ‘who wants to help mommy?’ and both kids will volunteer! Must start ‘training’ them from young!! Hehe.. =)

    • KidsDreamWork says:

tatabonita – Oh yes, he has been eying to do that since long time ago but I just don’t have the time to do it with him! :)

Your boy had done a good job. I’m sure you surely enjoyed this moment with your son in the kitchen.

  • Sonoma Bento says:

How great! Cooking with your children helps them learn about nutrition, and when they eventually grow up they will have great skills to help them live on their own. Good for you, Kids Dream Work!

  • Ming says:

    JY grows up a loT!!!

  • Susan says:

He did a fantastic job!!! Great bento. :)

  • Lia Chen says:

Kids in the kitchen always messy but hey … messy meaning a lot of fun right? My kids always curious when I cook something or make something in the kitchen. I think kind of good to include them sometimes, so they have basic skill to cook too :)

  • Deewi says:

JY really did a fantasic job @ the kitchen!
Kids may mess up at the kitchen but I believe “little chef” may have his dreams…
A good example of my younger brother who started heating up food before mom’s home at age of 6 and he’s a Chef and a owner of a restaurant now!

  • Cooking Gallery says:

That’s so cute! When I had a kid one day, I would certainly cook/bake with him/her in the kitchen:).

    • KidsDreamWork says:

Cooking Gallery – Yeah, it is fun to have some private time with them at the kitchen from time to time! Will try to do this more often if time allows!
