Last night my boy asked if he could have a puppy as pet. Due to his allergy, I had to say no to him. Getting a negative answer on having a puppy, my boy started to try his luck with all kinds of pets – cats, hamsters, birds, fishes and tortoises, basically anything that he could think of.
Now I wonder if I should I let him keep a pet.
While this conversation went on into the possibility of aquatic species, JY asked if I could make him a crab bento. I could not help laughing. Oh well, if a crab bento would cheer him up, why not?
The bento today is a butter sandwich. I made a crab from mini sausage and pinned it to the sandwich with uncooked spaghetti. Surprisingly, it was not as tough as I thought to make a crab from mini sausages.
Besides the crab, I cut a cloud shape from cheese and punched two spiral shapes from seaweed to decorate the sandwich.
I filled up the other section of the bento box with some boiled oborotsuki, fresh cherries and two skewers of endamame.
Here is the closed up photo of the sausage crab.
I will try to post a step-by-step tutorial for the crab later. Stay tune!
Tomorrow will be a public holiday again after the long Hari Raya break, our brand new 1Malaysia day! 1Malaysia is an on-going public relations campaign announced by Malaysian Prime Minister on September 16, 2008, calling for the cabinet, government agencies, and civil servants to work towards ethnic harmony, national unity, and efficient governance.
Happy holiday to all Malaysian!

SheeMin – Thanks for your always supportive comment!
I think this cute crab will cheer him up! My kids’ pet hamsters didn’t last long … they got bored and then finally we gave away the hamsters to friend. Kids usually just wanna play with it but don’t understand the responsibility behind keeping the pet
Lia Chen – That was what I tried to remind my boy last night about the big responsibility of keeping a pet! He seems like a bit taken back when I told him what he needs to do for each of the pets he mentioned, e.g. cleaning up the mess etc. But still he was trying his luck to give me different pets name, with the hope that he could get an easy maintenance one maybe.
The bentos you create are lovely! What a lucky boy. BTW… our preschool son and daughter have a beta fish named Little Goldie, who they adore. Betas are very pretty and super easy maintenance. Ours lives in a medium size fish bowl with a asian style bridge that it likes to swim around and sleep under. They feed it once a day and I clean the tank every 2-4 weeks depending on when the water needs a change. If we go on a short vacation, we just drop in a time released feeder tablet. For longer vacations a neighbor has always been happy to care for Little Goldie their home. I enjoyed your site. Thanks!
Angela Masco – Welcome to KidsDreamWork and thanks for your sweet comment! Hey, betta fish sounds not bad at all, and I can just keep one right and not a full tank of fish. Thanks for the idea, will seriously consider about this!
The crab is really cute. It makes me smile
anncoo – Thank you!
spot on cutie little crabby! you are right having pet means heavy responsibilities. if time permits, do consider as it also brings loads of joy and learning lessons to our kids in return.
karen – Thanks! Yeah, and my major concern is his allergy, so I think aquatic species are the most possible ones. Still considering it.
