Last weekend was really a busy one for me. As I mentioned earlier, I was invited to give a bento making demo session in a Church’s annual event and so happened both the boys were down with bad flu. We had to make few trips to the pediatrician clinic and at the same time I had to work on the preparations for the event.
It was tiring but we all had a great time during the event. Yes, the boys tagged along with us too though they were sick just because they didn’t want to miss the magic show which is part of the event.
These were the bentos I made during the demo.
A snowman onigiri bento and a pumpkin egg fried noodle bento.
I landed on these two themes simply because it was a Church event and I thought I shall make something that the audience can re-use the idea for the upcoming celebrations – Halloween and Christmas!
Just to make the bento demo session more interesting, I actually prepared some snacks for the audience. So instead of purely watching, the audience ate too.
I steamed some sausages and decorated them into baby octopuses and sweets.
Besides the sausages, I made some mini sandwiches too decorated with cute cheese bunnies.
I tried to make as much snacks as I could with the limited time I had, but the food still way to little to serve the huge number of people. They were all gone after a while the counter was opened! I wished I could have made more seeing those disappointed little faces (you are right, this counter attracted mostly kids)!
In fact I was glad that this demo actually attracted few really keen mothers and some youngsters too and I hope by then I can spread the culture of bento-ing.
By the way, remember to visit this blog tomorrow as I’ll be having a blog anniverssary giveaway!
Happy bento-ing to all!

莎莎妈咪sab says everything…GREAT work, Ai Ping. You are superb!!! Hope that your boys recover ASAP. ^.^
Emily – Thank you! The boys are getting much better now too.
Interesting event and interesting food for demo!
Wishing your boys a speedy recovery! My son is having flu also but I’ll just let him recover on his own as it is unavoidable once he goes to school.
Angeleyes – Thanks! Oh yes, that was a very fun event indeed.
For my boys, once they started with running nose they’ll always turn into very bad cough, that is what I worry most. So better treat at earliest stage
Well done, love the snowman. Makes me feel like Christmas ; )
Carmen – Thank you! Soon it will be Christmas too, haha…
Wah.what a big great fantastic job!YOu did all the things by yourself, amazingand I the snowman bento, but may I know what rice do you use for the origini?I didn’t look like Japanese rice.
Elaine – Thank you very much! Supposedly my elder boy wanted to help me with the sausages but since he was sick, the last thing I want is for him to pass the virus to others so I didn’t let him help with the food at last. He was a bit disappointed though, but he accepted my explanation well at last. That is Japanese rice, but I just cook it the normal way. I tried normal rice before and they won’t stick so well as Japanese rice.
Awww, you brought the audiences a lot cuteness, Ai Ping!
. Congrats, you did a very good job for the event
tatabonita – Thanks Tata! I hope everyone has a great time too!
Well done Ai Ping! Very nice bento and can imagine how excited those kids to see your bento and the cute sausages. They will ask their moms to take lesson from you soon hehehe
Lia Chen – Thank Lia! Actually during the demo session, I get lots of questions and surprisingly mostly from teenagers! Some was saying they will go home and try it out. I hope soon we will have a fast growing bento community!
Love the “candy” hot dogs!! I’m definitely going to borrow that for a Halloween bento. Looks like you worked really hard!
Bethanie – Thank you and glad that you like the candy sausages! It was tiring but was really a fun event.
Great effort! You have so much passion in bento making!
Ming Sze – Thank you! It is really fun making bento, trust me!
Wow! So many people. Happy to see that bento- love is spreading fast ! Love the snowman, cant wait for Christmas and all the christmas themed bentos. =)
Karen – Thank you! Oh yes, I still remember making series of Christmas bento last year, and I can’t believe that just in a blink of eyes, it is going to be Christmas again pretty soon!
Christmas sure comes early yeah? Just kidding…very thoughtful of you to provide snacks as well on top of the bento demo.
choohk – Yeah, I was making snowman even before the Halloween is over yeah, haha…
How I wished I have more time to prepare more snacks, but that is the best I can do so far. The amount is really way too little compare to the people there in the event!
Wow, what an amazing assortment of yummy food!
Susan – Thank you!
I love them all….
can I have a sampler for each of them…?? LOL
Yenny – Thank you! Sure, you are free to take them here

Your snowman bento is v cute… Btw do u use crabstick for the scarf? Thanks.
Justgotstartec – Welcome to KidsDreamWork and thanks for your comment! Yes, the scarf is the red portion of the artificial crabstick.
So cute!! you have so much brilliant ideas on sausages! and i love the sandwiches with cheese bunny too….!!
Ming – Thank you! Really a lot of things can be made from sausages, but I was trying to control the amount of sausages to give to JY.
