I can’t believe that I haven’t been updating this blog for so long! I was really tied up with work after being assigned with new task and new role, and there are lots of things to be rushed before Chinese New Year which is just around the corner.
Anyway, let me share one of the bento I made for my elder boy. I have so many bento pending to be posted!
Lately my boy has been reading one of the all time favourite children stories – The Hare and the Tortoise. Needless to say, he asked for a bento with that theme. It took me a while to figure out how I could put that story into a bento.
So these are the tools I used to make the bento – a bunny cookies cutter, a teddy bear shape cookies cutter, a facial seaweed puncher, a spiral shape seaweed puncher, a pair of small scissors and a small straw.
I cut the hare from the bread crust with the bunny cookies cutter. I then used the teddy bear cutter to cut the body of the tortoise from the bread crust.
To make the tortoise, I cut the head free hand from a slice of cheese, and places the teddy bear shape bread crust upside down as the body part. I decorated the body with some spiral shape seaweed cut with the spiral puncher.
Everything was pinned to the butter sandwich with tiny stripes of un-cooked spaghetti just to make sure that they don’t move around when the bento is being transported from home to school, until JY is ready to eat them.
Besides the sandwich, I included some boiled endamame, cherry tomatoes and a quail egg too. I cut some small circle on the quail egg with the small straw just to decorate it.
Does the tortoise looks like it is winning the race?
By the way, I wonder of I could consider this a bunny theme bento as well to celebrate the bunny year? Oh well, at least there was a bunny there.
Happy Chinese New Year to everyone!
