I didn’t make any bento for my elder boy today because their school is having a fruit party for theme learning. All the kids are requested to bring some ready cut fruits to share with their classmates during the party.
JY requested to bring some watermelon, but I rarely buy watermelon and I am having problem finding one last minute. So instead of watermelon, I cut some apples and made a quick soak in salt water before I pack them up for him to bring to school. I was in a rush this morning, or else I would have made some picks to decorate the apple cubes. Hope the kids will be having fun in the party while learning about various fruits.
Anyway, yesterday I managed to make a kyaraben bento for JY, merely two within a week. I really missed the old days when I can make kyaraben everyday!
While I was trying to figure out what to put in the bento, I suddenly recalled that I had some mantous sitting in the freezer for quite some time and I thought I better used them before they expire.
I steamed the mantou, cut it into three portions and lined them up in the bento box thinking of just giving each of the mantou slices some cute facial detail. But after a second thought, I decided to make a fat caterpillar out of it.
I used two lollipop shape food picks as the antenna, punched the facial detail from seaweed and used the strawberry jam for the rosy cheeks. Now I realized I forgot to put the legs for the caterpillar, ooppss…
Besides the mantou, there were also some fresh cherries, boiled endamame in the panda food container, and a cheese cube in the bento.
Using the mantou I made a snack box for JQ too.
You can judge how petite his appetite is by looking at the size of his snack! He had half of a mantou and two fresh de-cored cherries.

Very cute and “sweet” caterpillar… erm… I thot you said JY “classified” pink as girlish? So I guessed it’s a “girl caterpillar” eh? heh heh.
And I saw your nice purple color box. Very nice color!!! And Baby Jo loves the box so much cz she loves Mickey & Minnie. Thanks again!
Yeapies – Hmm..I never thought of that, maybe he really think that way? Hahaha…
But still I like the pink colour box better and glad that Baby Jo likes it. Even this purple one, JY is making a comment that it seems a bit girlish, but I try to brain wash him for purple is unisex, haha…

bobo – Yeah, love the vibrant pink spiral of the mantou. Err, can the second one consider a bento too?
