Yesterday my boy was so happy with his tempura fish fingers snack bento that he requested for the same bento today. He finished everything in the bento box and he told me that all the food were delicious!

Instead of giving him the same snack for two continuous days, I decided to make him baked potato wedges which are less oily today. Nowadays I am trying my best to include more varieties of food in JY’s daily bento.

After baking the potato wedges, I let them cool down before I turned them into a Teddy Bear. Oh yes, Teddy Bear again! I think Teddy Bear is one of the favourite characters in bento, isn’t it?

I used the red and white portions of a boiled artificial crab meat to make the polka dots scarf of the bear and I pinned the scarf to the potato wedges with this lovely flower food pick. The bear’s facial detail was made with the remaining white portion of the artificial crab meat and seaweed. I apply a small amount of mayonnaise to make the artificial crab meats stick to the potato wedges.

Besides the potato wedges, there were also my boy’s favourite fresh cherries and boiled endamame. He never fails to clean up these two if they are in his bento!

I was giving my refrigerator a ‘spring cleaning’ last night and I came across these mini fish fingers in light crispy tempura batter in the freezer.

The first thing that came to me is to use it for my boy’s bento the next day. It would be a good change for his snack besides the usual sandwiches and bun.

I pan fried four fish fingers this morning and gave each of them the bone shape food picks. I was hoping to make them look like mini drumsticks. Do they? My boy would need a little imagination to see them as drumsticks I guessed.

Besides the fish fingers, I steamed some oborotsuki too and give them a little touch up with the spiral seaweed punched out. I included another three skewers of endamame and two fresh cherries to complete the meal.

I hope my boy enjoys his bento today, and wish all the kids and teachers a fun time with their class photo shooting today!

Guessed what, my boy woke up on his own today and the first thing he asked me is to make his hair spiky in the front for the class photo! Oh dear, I could not stop laughing because his hair is shorter than one centimeter, and it is already spiky. What magic could I do for his hair? None!

We bought some blackcurrant dorayaki yesterday from a local bakery and my boy liked it very much so I saved one for his bento today.

Dorayaki always makes me think of Doraemon. So the theme for JY’s bento today is… a dorayaki Doraemon!

I used seaweed and boiled artificial crab meat to create the facial detail of Doraemon. It was pretty speedy and everything was cut free hand. Doraemon’s trademark little bell on the neck was made with the white portion of the steamed artificial crab meat and seaweed.

I hope it looks like Doraemon apart from the supposedly white and blue colours which had turned into black and beige.

The dorayaki was quite big so I only added two cherries and two dried prunes in the bento to avoid any food wastage.

Lately my boy is a big fan of Doraemon, so I hope he will be happy with his bento today when he sees them later in school!

My boy’s school declared today as a special off day due to the Kiddie Sports Day last Saturday, but the childcare service is still open. As such I made my boy something heavier for his morning break since they would be having a longer break.

I decided to make my boy a bento with the “Bear’s School” sandwich box today. Very likely the kids would have a picnic during snack break time at the playground and I thought this sandwich box would be perfect! In fact JY has been asking for that sandwich box since I first used it.

I made two SPAM sandwiches with wholemeal bread and some fresh lettuce leaves. I cut two little bears from the extra SPAM with the yellow Teddy sandwich cutter which is beside the bento box in the photo. I decorated the bears with seaweed and cheese, and placed a hat and a ribbon on each of them.

I wrapped the sandwiches with the blue colour under water theme aluminum foil before putting them into the sandwich box. This cute aluminum foil is courtesy of a dear blogger friend whom knew that I had been searching for it high and low (thank you so much C).

Besides the SPAM sandwiches, I completed the bento with two fresh cherries and dried prunes in the cute bean shape silicon food cup. I hope JY will have a great picnic time with this bento!

Update: Submitted this for What’s For Lunch Wednesday fun!

We were so glad that JY made it to the Kiddie Sports Day yesterday and had a real fun time there with the teachers and friends!

For the past few days we were so worried about the fever coming back on Saturday, and the boy has been asking again and again if he can still joined the sports day event if the fever persists. Luckily on the big day, besides slight running nose and cough he had no fever. So off we went for the big event!

Just to share some excited moments during the event.

I love the grand opening of the Kiddie Sports Day, where colourful balloons being released to the air.

The kids presenting dances before the sports event started.

Here comes the little boy speeding off from the starting line. You can see how happy he was!

Toward the tunnel he went.

And he was out from the tunnel in no time.

Off he went running towards the teammates waiting for their turn.

Guessed what, JY’s team earned themselves a 2nd runner up in the contest. Now the boy spotted me and he was trying to show off his trophy to me!

Pardon me for the poorly captured photos as that was the best I can do with my dummy point-and-shoot camera far away from the spectator seats!

Everyone had a real great time during the events with lots of goodies and a KFC meal for the kids after the event.
